James Vincent McNichol plays a teenager who renounces his home and family to run off with a quasi-religious cult, and real-life sister Kristy (acting for the first time with her brother) sets out to bring him back, very nearly becoming brainwashed herself.

too bad I missed this before
I had to spend a day, grabbing the video off a divx site for watching movies.
It did not save as an avi, even though it was encoded as XviD. Works with VLC player.
